Target Content
|
In this unit, students will learn about healthy habits , talk about duration of daily
activities, ask and answer Qs about time, talk about food pyramid and which foods are healthy and which foods are
unhealthy. Through reading, the students will recognize that they have to
make choices about what they eat. Students are going to learn how to write a paragraph and how to make
leaflet.

By the end of this unit, the students will be able

each activity.

This lesson is from English For Me taught in Oman, my own
thoughts and some internet websites.
|
|
Procedure
|
** Lesson 1 ( 45
minutes):
-
Presents the new unit
"healthy habits" through a PowerPoint presentation.
-
Students look at the pictures related
to daily routine activities and answer some Qs about the pictures.
-
Ss talk about their own daily
routine. Ask Qs about duration of daily activities. Students write about the
time they spend doing different activities each day.
-
Discuss about healthy habits. Get
Ss to tell you different ways to stay healthy. Encourage them to think about
food, exercise and hygiene.
-
Distribute worksheets, get Ss to
read the instruction for the activity. Then, let them sort habits into the
chart.
-
Introduce how to make poster about
healthy habits, divide the class into groups. Ask them to make a poster by use
pictures from newspapers, magazine, website, …etc.
-
In the lesson 3, they will
presented their posters.

** Lesson 2 (45 minutes):
-
Discuss about healthy
food and get children to suggest some examples. Do the same with unhealthy
food.
-
Show video related to
balance diet.
-
Ask the children to list the five types of food shown in the
clip.
-
Ask the children what they had for breakfast and list the
items of food and drink on the whiteboard.
-
Discuss with Ss why we need to eat and drink. What would
happen to us if we didn't?
-
Ask the children what other things help us to keep healthy,
apart from eating the right foods. List appropriate suggestions on the board.
-
Discuss features of
paragraph with Ss . ask Ss to read the
text and discuss features of paragraph into groups. Ask Ss to write a
paragraph about healthy food.
-
Homework: ask the children to create a healthy
meal plate that includes the different food groups.

** Lesson 3 (45 minutes):
-
Play the song " Wake Up! Daily
Routines" , ask students to do actions for it.
-
Introduce the use of
"adverbs of frequency". T. elicit the meaning of these adverbs by
asking Qs related to daily routines.
-
Introduce the monkeys and get the students
to look at the pictures and tell you why Monty is healthy and Mandy is
unhealthy.
-
Students read the text
and match to pictures. Play CD player, tell students listen to description of
the monkeys and check their answers.
-
Discuss the healthy
habits and unhealthy habits.
-
Students will
presented their poster and paste the poster around the wall of the school.

** Lesson 4 ( 45 minutes):
-
Show the class the
leaflets you brought in. explain that leaflets are usually free pieces of
paper which give information, or
get you to buy something.
-
identify some of the
obvious features of leaflets. Get Ss to read the leaflet and answer the Qs.
-
Write adverbs of frequency on the
board. Read the words and check that Ss remember their meaning.
-
Ask Ss to read the
instruction on class book. Explain that they are going to answer the Qs and
find out how healthy they are. Give Ss some time to read the Qs by themselves
and answer them.
-
When they are ready,
read the instruction at bottom of the page. Show Ss how to turn their book
upside down, add up their score using the key and read about how healthy they
are. Give Ss a short time to compare their results with a friend.
-
Ask Ss about their
"healthy habits" using the Qs , Do you [eat sweets] every day? Let
them answer Yes, I do/No, I don't.
-
Explain the activity
to the class. Ss should ask Qs to different members of their group. When
someone replies "Yes, I do". When they have finished, get them to
tell their group what they found out.
-
Homework: ask
Ss to make leaflet and bring it next lesson.

Description of the project:
This project was designed to educate
students about healthy habits and guide
them to choose the
proper nutrition for the growth of
their bodies and
minds and how to stay healthy and active. Students need to learn about healthy and
unhealthy habits. As we know that now many students
have poor nutrition, so you must make them aware about the proper food
for them. My
project focus in four skills on communication. I hope it is useful.
