I'm just a Teen

I'm just a Teen
By Maher Qabasi
TET Student
Jordan/ Aqaba

I'm just a teen
I'm not a man
I'm not a child
Do you understand

You see me unkempt
I think I'm polite

Looking all around
Making me so sad

No one can get me
Or even tried
They make me crazy
They make me mad

Mother, sister, brother and my dad
All are asking
Why doing this
Why doing that
All can see me thin or fat
Never take a look
To see me inside

I leave them there to see you here
The teacher sees me
slouched on my chair
He looks at my clothes
He looks at my hair
He thinks I'm lethargic
In fact I do care

Teens Pain in Life

Teens pain in life,
is not to die, but to be ignored

To lose the person you love so
much to another who doesn't care at all

Teens pain in life, is not to die, but to be forgotten

When you show someone your innermost thoughts

and he laughs in your face

For friends to always be too busy to console you when you need
someone to lift your spirits

When it seems like the only person who cares about you, is you

Life is full of pain, but does it ever get better?

Will people ever care about each other, and make time for those who are in need?
Each of us has a part to play
in this great play we call life

Each of us has a duty to mankind
to tell our friends we love them

If you do not care about your friends
you will not be punished

You will simply be ignored... forgotten... as you have done to others

Who are teens?

Who are teens?

Teens are naturally inquisitive
Why do I have to?
Do you like my hair?
Do you like my clothes?
Do you like my cell phone?

Teens are natural contradictions
Insecure yet portray overconfidence
Expressive yet closed-mouthed (especially at times when they should be expressive!)
Confused yet sometimes have all the answers
Thirsty to learn yet can be inpatient to find out

Teens

Caught in between
That's the life of a Teen!

Not yet an adult
No longer a child
I push boundaries, I test limits
I'm awkward and wild

Caught in between
That's the life of a Teen!

My body is weird
growing and changing
I'm trying to keep up
with all this rearranging!

Caught in between
That's the life of a Teen!

My parents struggle
To keep me safe
Yet to let me grow up
And to find my place

Caught in between
That's the life of a Teen!

I Like to Talk, Talk, Talk
On my cell phone and in class!
I chat online, all the time
I hope the teacher didn't see the notes I pass!

Caught in between
That's the life of a Teen!

What seems to matter most
Is what my peers think
I hope we can learn interactively
(Wink, Wink, Wink!)
